Akihira Kawasaki is one of only six master swordsmiths in Japan, and the only master swordsmith based in the Kanto region. He has had his work displayed across numerous exhibitions across Japan, receiving the Grand Prize at the 13th Annual Omamori Katana Exhibition in 2019. Currently, Master Kawasaki is the Director of the All Japan Swordsmith Association and Head of the Association’s Kanto branch.
As Master Kawasaki’s cultural partner in Japan, we are extremely honored to be digital distributors of his work. We hope to support the long-lasting tradition and artistry of his craft through our Japan Shop.
We also recommend that those interested in purchasing a katana visit Master Kawasaki’s forge before purchasing, as all swords are crafted upon custom requests. The experience of engaging with Master Kawasaki and witnessing the intricate and complex making process firsthand is invaluable, bringing new meaning and appreciation to the craft.
Process from order to delivery
1 . We begin with a consultation to understand your desired blade style, hamon and overall shape — whether katana, wakizashi, or tanto.
2. We will then propose the estimated cost and delivery time. Payment can be made in two installments.
3. Once the initial deposit is received, production will begin. ※Please pay 1/2 of the total.
4. For those who wish, you may strike the first piece of Japanese tamahagane steel alongside the master at the forge to mark the start of creation.
5. After the tempering process, we will confirm the shape and measurements. You are also welcome to visit the forge.
6. Once the polishing is complete and the registration certificate is obtained, the katana will be delivered. ※Please complete the final payment.
