Enen-ji Temple offers a private space for zen meditation

Find a peaceful and intimate escape from the commotion of daily life through a private zen meditation session in Enenji Temple.

Zen Buddhism is one of the most widely recognized schools of Buddhism in the world. It has influenced the personal and professional lives of many famous people, including Apple founder Steve Jobs and Academy Award-winning actor Jeff Bridges. Although considered difficult to define precisely, Zen Buddhism is generally understood as the practice of meditation to achieve enlightenment.

Zazen, or seated meditation, is a form of meditation performed while sitting on a cushion, serving as a means to achieve peace, clarity, and self-discovery. It is said that the Buddha himself attained enlightenment through the practice of zazen. The practice of Zen meditation helps individuals detach from the joys and sorrows of the material world.

About the experience

We invite you to visit a Zen temple with over 350 years of history, located in a town that once boasted a unique temple culture known as Fukagawa Teramachi due to the number of temples that relocated there during the Edo period. Despite being destroyed multiple times by earthquakes and air raids, the temple has been rebuilt each time as a symbol of the town's resilience. In 2018, it was reborn as a beautiful wooden building equipped with the latest facilities. Take this opportunity to reflect on yourself in the Zen hall where the past and the future intersect.

At the end of the meditation session, tea and Japanese sweets will be served, at which time you can hold an intimate conversation with the priest. This experience offers a unique opportunity for individuals to gain true awareness of both mind and body.
